UMB DOL: Tamale City beat Northern City, RTU held by Sankara Nationals, Eleven Wonders draw with Mighty Royals in Zone One 

Tamale City FC began their 2026/27 UMB Division One League campaign with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over city rivals Northern City FC at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium on Saturday.

After a goalless first half, Tamale City broke the deadlock in the 73rd minute when substitute Richard Barko calmly converted from the penalty spot. Northern City pushed for an equaliser but Tamale City held firm to secure all three points in the local derby.

Former Premier League side Real Tamale United FC were held to a 1-1 draw by Sankara Nationals in their opening game at the Yendi Youth Resource Centre.

Following a goalless first half, Real Tamale United took the lead in the 50th minute through Emmanuel Owusu. Sankara Nationals responded strongly and restored parity in the 73rd minute, with Hafiz Bawa producing a brilliant finish to level the scores. RTU were unable to reclaim the lead as the game ended in a draw.

Meanwhile, former Premier League side Techiman Eleven Wonders were held to a frustrating goalless draw by Wamanafo Mighty Royals at the Ohene Ameyaw Park on Sunday.

Eleven Wonders created several promising scoring opportunities but were unable to find the breakthrough as both teams settled for a share of the points.
