President Akufo Addo announces package for players and Technical staff of U-20 AFCON winning squad

Players and technical staff members of the U-20 winning team will receive a financial package of $10,000 dollars each for lifting the 2021 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations title.

This was announced by President of the Republic, H.E Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo on Tuesday, March 9, 2021 at the Jubilee House in Accra.

Ghana conceded three goals and scored nine in the five games played at the championship and also won the best goalkeeper award and the overall best player of the tournament award.

Coach Karim Zito’s side began the competition with a 4-0 win over Tanzania, drew goalless with Morocco before falling 2-1 to the Gambia at the group stage.

Ghana went on to beat Cameroon, Gambia and Uganda to lift the coverted trophy.

Speaking on Tuesday, President Nana Addo announced a whopping $10,000 package for each of the 27 players who played at the tournament and ten technical team members, amounting to $330,000.

Each playing member is entitled to $5,000 in cash and an investment facility in the form of a bond worth $5,000 which will mature in 10 years’ time.

In addition to this, President Akufo-Addo made a personal pledge of $5,000 each to goalkeeper Danlad Ibrahim, captain Afriyie Barnieh, overall best player Fatawu Issahaku and Head coach Karim Zito.

Ghana beat Uganda 2-0 in the final to win a record fourth African title on Saturday, March 6, 2021 at the Olympics stadium in Nouakchott, Mauritania.

The event was attended by Chief of Staff Hon. Akosua Frema Osei Opare, Nana Asante Bediatuo, Secretary to the President and other staff members at the Presidency.

The Ghana Football Association was represented by President Kurt E.S Okraku, Executive Council member Dr. Randy Abbey, who doubles as Chairman of the Black Satellites Committee and Samuel Anim Addo, Executive Council member.

Others included, Samuel Aboabire, Chairman, Greater Accra Regional Football Association (Black Satellites Management Committee member), Alhaji Abu Alhassan, Chairman of the Northern Regional Football Association (Black Satellites Management Committee member), Michael Tawiah Attoh, National team Coordinator, Deputy General Secretary Alexander Asante and Henry Asante Twum, Director of Communications.
