Time is ticking to kick off at the 2008 African Cup of Nations and Ghana’s opening day opponents, Guinea say they will approach the game in a guarded way but are optimistic about their chances.

Guinea, competing in their ninth Nations Cup finals were quarter-finalists in the last two editions of the tournament and they hope to go a step further this time with a final berth their sole ambition.

However, Robert Nouzaret’s side would have to plot a route that would land them a place beyond the group stage first and they begin that task with an opening game of the tournament in Group A, against hosts, Ghana, who are four-time champions at the tournament.

“We are sure of the quality of Ghana’s team but we will not have come here if we were unsure of our chances,” Robert Nouzaret says ahead of the game on Sunday.

“Ghana is ahead and their quality is pure.”

Robert Nouzaret says the home support expected to be enjoyed by Ghana at the Ohene Djan Stadium will spur on the Syli Nationale.

“We do not worry about stage fright because we are also aware that that could favour us and put pressure on our opponents.”

A good result against Ghana could mathematically define the chances of the Syli Nationale in Group A, Nouzaret says.
