The 2019/2020 Ghana premier league’s account officially opened last weekend with an avalanche of goals and exciting display of talents. Week 2 promises to be more exciting with fixtures you can’t miss.

Friday night battle

Rebranded Legon Cities FC will be facing Kumasi Asante Kotoko in a mouthwatering Friday night soccer bonanza in Accra. Legon Cities FC, formerly Wa All Stars, started the season on a promising note. They were on course for an upset at Dansoman last weekend, when leading by two goals. But Liberty Professionals produced two late goals to put them back in their place. Nevertheless, it was an encouraging start for the team. The real deal will be on this evening when they lock horns with ‘giants’ Asante Kotoko in Accra.

With the Accra Sports Stadium deemed as Kotoko's second home grounds, the Porcupine Warriors will want to prove superiority over the Royals. For Kotoko, winning at home on match day 1 was a dream start, and Coach Maxwel Konadu will love another win away to maintain his perfect start. Legon Cities will also be keen to make their first home match of the season at their adopeted home a memorable one, especially with music star, Shatta Wale on the bill to thrill fans.

Medeama vr Hearts

Another stadout contest is the clash between Medeama SC and Accra Hearts of Oak in Tarkwa.

The ‘Yellow and Mauve’ lads look strong contenders to break into the top four this season on the evidence of that resounding away victory on match day 1 in Cape Coast. For Hearts of Oak, this looks another tough match to end their opening day woes. With the exit of Coach Kim Grant, the mantle to revive the Phobians on week 2 is on Edward Nii Odoom. Captain Fatawu Mohammed’s defensive exploits and Joseph Esso’s sharpness upfront will be vital to the Phobians against Medeama.

Inter Allies must be on redemption mission at home , Accra Sports Stadium to Bechem United on Saturday to keep hopes alive after a 4-0 mauling by Aduana Stars SC in Dormaa on Match day 1.

The “Eleven is to one” lads started on a wrong pedal as compared to their opponent Bechem United who clinched all three points at home against Elmina Sharks at home.

The big question can Inter Allies redeem themselves and have all points in their basket on Saturday at the Accra Sports Stadium?

Brekum Chelsea stole a vital away win from Accra Hearts of Oak; a win that caused the dismissal of Kim Grant as Hearts Coach. Heading to the Golden city park, they are beaming with confidence awaiting Liberty Professionals on Sunday.

Liberty Professionals also staged a quick come back over the weekend at the Carl Reindorf Park to avoid a home defeat on match day 1.

Whether that late comeback will inspire them at the Golden City Park, on the 90 minutes will decide.

It was a torrid return to the Ghana Premier League last weekend for King Faisal. They crashed 4-1 at the ‘Theatre of dreams’ in Dawu. The team will definitely be looking to bounce back from that heavy defeat heading into match day 2 at home but can they quench Ashgold’s fire? Ashgold SC on the other hand sparked to a flying start by defeating Accra Great Olympics 3-1 in Obuasi.

With reliable striker Shafiu Mumuni leading the attack of the miners, defenders of King Faisal's defence will have to be tighter than it was at Dawu on Sunday to stop the Miners. The first Ashanti Derby of the season; bragging right and 3 points are at stake for whoever grabs the a win.

Techiman Eleven Wonders made a losing start to their campaign, crashing 1-0 to Asante Kotoko at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium last weekend. Desperate for a bounce-back win, the team has had the added pressure of facing a free scoring Dreams FC at the Nana Ameyaw Park in Techiman. Dreams FC on the other hand kicked off their campaign with a 4-1 drubbing of promoted King Faisal, putting their cue in the rack after that wonderful display. Could they be a bit travel-weary as they journey to the Nana Ameyaw Park in Techiman? Can Eleven Wonders secure their first home point or even points?

Accra Great Olympics will be looking forward to a memorable return for their first home game since their promotion. But after losing their first game of the season, Olympics face a huge task against Aduana who won big on match day one to lead the table. That resounding win on match day one seems to have set the tone for great performances this season,. For Great Olympics, they must find a way of appeasing their fans at home after returning to the premier league and losing their first game to Ashgold.

WAFA looks like the favourites to increase their winning run in the new season as they sit home at the Red Bull Arena to welcome Ebusua Dwarfs FC on Sunday. The Academy boys displayed a spirited performance over the weekend to shock their hosts, Karela United. Ebusua Dwarfs FC however looked fragile and vulnerable after loosing a critical season opener at home to Medeama SC. Is WAFA going to sink the Abontoa bontoa lads further or Ebusua Dwarfs could pull a fast one on the Academy lads to get their season back on track?
