MEDEAMA SC, BECHEM UNITED CHASE DOMESTIC GLORY SUNDAY……………………

Medeama SC and Bechem United will vie for the Premier League title on the final day of season. The teams are separated by three points in the League after 33 round of matches as Medeama lead the table with 57 points – three points richer than Bechem United who are in second place with 54 points. Whiles, Medeama SC need one point to win the title, Bechem United aim to beat Aduana FC and pray for a Medeama SC setback against Tamale City at Akoon Park.

Medeama SC joined the Ghana Premier League in 2010 but operated under the name Kessben FC until January 2011 when Moses Armah took over and changed the name to Medeama SC. The mauves and yellows have been highly competitive on the domestic front having won two MTN FA Cup titles in 2013 and 2015. They also boasts of a Ghana Super Cup trophy in 2015 following a 1-0 win over AsantiGold SC at the Accra Sports stadium.

The Tarkwa moved to the top of the table on Sunday, May 21, 2023 after a resounding 5-1 win over Accra Hearts of Oak in a Matchday 31 fixture at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Coach Evans Adotey’s side have twice competed in the CAF Confederation Cup – where they made their debut in 2014 but lost to AC Leopards (5-4) on penalties after a 2-2 draw over two legs – kicked them out of the competition in the play-off round.

Their second appearance was impressive as they went passed Al Ittihad Tripoli (2-1), Al Ahly Shendy (2-0) before drawing (3-3) with Mamelodi Sundowns over two legs. The Tarkwa lads made it to the Group stage after Mamelodi Sundowns had a walkover after AS Vita were disqualified for fielding an unqualified player.

They finished third in their Group and failed to qualify to the semifinals as they fell short of the needed goals to make the semis.

Medeama SC will battle relegation threatened Tamale City on Sunday with both sides in search of the points for different reasons. A win on Sunday would do Tamale City a lot of good in their quest to maintain their Premier League status. But that won’t come easy as the trek to the dreaded Akoon Park as guests of the League leaders.

Second placed Bechem United who are three points adrift at the top with 54 points will face two time-champions Aduana FC.

The Dormaa lads enjoyed the top spot for 185 days but are currently 3rd in the table with 52 point. Bechem United can only win the league if they beat Aduana FC and Medeama SC loses to Tamale City at the Akoon Park on Sunday.

Bechem United won the MTN FA Cup in the 2015/16 season after beating Okwahu United 2-1 for their first domestic crown.

The Akoon Park at Tarkwa and Nana Agyemang Badu I Park at Dormaa will be boiling on Matchday 34.
