The Black Satellites, Ghana’s male Under-20 side put a major gloss on their preparation for next year’s African Youth Championship by winning the sub-regional tournament, the Wafu competition last week.

Ghana, entered the competition hosted by Nigeria with fifteen other nations and went on a six game unbeaten run before lifting the Ibori Cup at the Wafu Under-20 Championship after beating Senegal 5-4 on penalties.

The Ghana Football Association believes the African Youth Championship title is not beyond Black Satellites considering the performance put in by the Ghana team at the revived sub-regional competition which formed part of the team’s preparation for the AYC to be hosted by Rwanda.

“The team continues to improve and we are satisfied with the work put in by the players, technical team and management so far. The performance at the Wafu Cup is highly commendable.

“As we congratulate the entire team for the success recorded at the expanded and revived Wafu competition, we believe this team is not far off making it at the AYC,” an FA statement read.

The FA says it expects the team to continue to stay positive, as the reach the final stages of their preparations ahead of mounting a challenge for the African Youth Championship title.

“In a couple of week’s time, the team would be getting ready for the Championship. We expect the entire squad to stay positive about Ghana’s chances. We have belief in their abilities to bring glory to country.”
