Niger secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Togo in the second Group B match of the 2025 WAFU Zone B U20 Championship on Saturday, July 12, at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram.
The only goal of the match came in the 28th minute when Abdoul Latif Goumey calmly slotted home break the deadlock. The striker’s composed finish proved to be the decisive moment in a tightly contested encounter.
Both sides created opportunities throughout the match, with Togo pushing for an equaliser in the second half, but neither team could find the back of the net again. Niger’s defence held firm to protect their slender lead and collect all three points.
The win places Niger in second position in Group B, behind leaders Ivory Coast, who earlier defeated Burkina Faso 2-1 in the group’s opening fixture. The results set up an intriguing battle for semi-final qualification as the group stage continues.
Coach Abdulrahamane Issa's side will take great confidence from the victory as they prepare for their next match against Ivory Coast, while Togo will be looking to bounce back quickly against Burkina Faso and keep their hopes of progression alive.
