UMB DOL: Semper Fi beat Okwawu United away, WAFA complete comeback, Accra Lions defeat Golden Warriors in Zone Three

Last season's runners-up, Semper Fi FC, made a winning start to their 2026/27 UMB Division One League campaign with an impressive 2-1 away victory over former Premier League side Okwawu United FC at the Carl Reindorf Park on Sunday.

Kofi Boakye Yiadom was the standout performer for Semper Fi, scoring twice in the first half to put the visitors in control. He opened the scoring in the 12th minute before doubling the advantage on the stroke of halftime. Okwawu United fought back after the break and reduced the deficit in the 78th minute through Quophy Nyame Berima, who produced a superb strike from inside the box.

WAFA SC also opened their 2026/27 campaign with an impressive away victory, coming from behind to beat Golden Kick SC 2-1 at the Tuba AstroTurf on Saturday.

Golden Kick took the lead in the 20th minute through midfielder Shaban Abubakar, who unleashed a brilliant long-range effort. WAFA responded just before halftime when Eyram Sappor found the equaliser with a fine volley in the 42nd minute. The visitors completed the comeback in the 62nd minute as Michael Nyantakyi fired home a spectacular effort to put WAFA ahead. The goal proved decisive as WAFA secured all three points.

Former Premier League side Accra Lions FC also began their campaign on a winning note, defeating Golden Warriors FC 2-0 at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium on Friday.

Isaac Yawson broke the deadlock in the 21st minute to give Accra Lions a 1-0 lead at halftime. Golden Warriors pushed for an equaliser after the break, but the home side remained resolute before sealing the victory in stoppage time. Diarra Abdoulaye scored the second goal to complete a 2-0 win for Accra Lions.
