The 2026/27 UMB Division One League got off to an exciting start, with 24 matches played across the various zones on Matchday One.
The opening round produced 9 home wins, 5 away victories and 10 draws, with a total of 38 goals scored. Home teams accounted for 22 goals, while away teams scored 16. Five penalties were awarded during the opening round, with four successfully converted and one missed.
In Zone Three, Accra Lions, Semper Fi and WAFA SC all recorded victories to begin their campaigns on a winning note, putting themselves at the top of the table after the opening round. The three sides will now look to maintain their momentum as the competition continues.
In Zone Two, Dwarfs secured an important away victory, while King Faisal, Ebony FC, Pro-Sports Academy, Nsuopun Fidelity and Nations FC also picked up away wins in their opening fixtures. The results have given the winning sides an early boost as they look to establish themselves in the promotion race.
In Zone One B, Victory Club Warriors, Dormaa Unity and Yapei FC all started their campaigns with victories, giving their supporters plenty to celebrate on the opening weekend. In Zone One A, Tamale City and Kabila SC also began their respective campaigns with wins.
With 38 goals scored, 10 draws recorded and several teams already making their intentions known, Matchday One provided an entertaining and competitive start to the new league campaign. While some clubs have enjoyed winning starts, others will be determined to bounce back and collect maximum points in the next round of fixtures.
As attention now turns to Matchday Two, the battle for points, league positions and promotion will intensify across all zones.
