The West African Football Union (WAFU) Zone B has appointed Senior Manager in Charge of Communications, Tophic Abdul Kadir, as Media Officer for the upcoming WAFU Zone B U20 Championship to be staged in Ivory Coast from July 26 to August 10, 2026.
The appointment marks the fourth time Tophic has been entrusted with the role at a major WAFU competition, underlining the confidence the regional football body has in his expertise and ability to manage media operations at international tournaments.
Tophic previously served as Media Officer during the 2024 WAFU Zone B U17 Girls Championship hosted in Ghana, the 2025 WAFU Zone B U20 Boys Championship also held in Ghana, and the WAFU Zone B U20 Girls Championship staged in Benin. His consistent involvement in key regional competitions has established him as one of the most experienced football communications officials within the WAFU Zone B region.
In his role as Media Officer, Tophic will be responsible for coordinating and organizing all media-related activities before, during and after the tournament. His duties will include managing media accreditation, facilitating press conferences, coordinating media coverage, overseeing content production and ensuring effective communication between tournament organizers, participating teams and media organizations.
The WAFU Zone B U20 Championship is expected to attract significant attention across the region as the competition will serve as the qualifying tournament for the 2027 Africa U20 Cup of Nations, which Ghana is set to host.
Tophic’s appointment is another indication of Ghana's growing influence in football administration and communications within the region. While the country continues to produce talented players, coaches and match officials, Ghanaian administrators are also increasingly earning recognition for their contributions to the development and promotion of the game across Africa.
His track record of delivering professional media operations at previous WAFU competitions is expected to enhance the visibility and reach of the championship.
