Tamale City record victory to strengthen grip in Zone One A, Debibi United maintain lead in Zone One B
Zone One A leaders Tamale City FC stretched their advantage at the top of the table to eight points after edging bottom-placed TF Exponential 3-2 in a pulsating five-goal thriller on Saturday. Sherif Salifu opened the scoring in the 20th minute for Tamale City, but Foster Amoah restored parity for the visitors ten minutes before halftime. Just two minutes into the second half, Isaac Frimpong fired the hosts back in front with a superb finish in the 47th minute. Mohammed Ibrahim equalized for TF Exponential in the 76th minute to set up a tense finale, but Sammy Osae Akoto struck a dramatic last-gasp winner to secure all three points for Tamale City FC. The victory takes Tamale City FC to 47 points from 21 league matches.
Meanwhile, former Premier League side Real Tamale United FC suffered a shocking 2-0 away defeat to mid-table Yapei FC at Jinapor Park in Buipe on Sunday. The result ended their impressive six-game unbeaten run (W4, D2) and dealt a significant blow to their title ambitions. Bernard Kofi Sie and Abedi Karim scored in the 19th and 29th minutes respectively to hand Yapei FC a comfortable first-half advantage. Defender Opoku Ampofo was named Player of the Match for his outstanding performance.
In Zone One B, leaders Debibi United FC recorded their 16th league victory of the season with a commanding 4-0 win over former Premier League side Legon Cities FC at the Debibi Presby Park on Sunday, further strengthening their grip at the summit. Kwadwo Antwi opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 7th minute, while Nketiah Clement doubled the lead just seven minutes later. Osman Zakariah wrapped up the emphatic victory with a late brace in the 86th and 96th minutes. Ansah Derrick was named Player of the Match following an impressive display. Debibi United FC have now amassed 50 points from 21 league games this season.
