A former Black Stars Team Manager, Sylvester Nii Sabahn Quaye will be laid to rest on October 10, 2026, at the Rev. Thomas Clegg Methodist Church, Kaneshie - Accra.

Nii Sabahn Quaye passed away on Sunday, June 28, 2026, at the age of 77, after a period of illness.

The late Nii Sabahn Quaye served as Team Manager of the Accra Hearts of Oak for many years and also held the same position at the Black Stars level, where he was highly respected for his professionalism and fatherly role to players.

At the family’s final funeral planning meeting held on Saturday, 3rd October 2026, the Director of the GFA Foundation, Malcolm Frazier Appeadu, was present to familiarize himself with the final funeral arrangements and other relevant details. During the meeting, he reiterated the GFA President’s deepest condolence to the bereaved family and assured them of the football community’s presence at the funeral to pay their last respects and bid farewell to their former colleague. The Family in responding to the visit, expressed its sincerest gratitude to the GFA for the support towards the funeral.

Sabahn Quaye spent many years as team manager of Hearts, playing an integral role during some of the club's most successful periods. He was one of the most respected football administrators in Ghana, earning widespread admiration for his dedication, discipline, and decades of service to the game. It was not surprising that his wealth of knowledge, admirable player management and experience in the game later saw him serve as team manager of the Black Stars, a position he served with diligence and excellence. After Hearts of Oak and the Black Stars, Nii Sabahn Quaye also worked with Legon Cities FC as Team Manager and Administrator until his untimely illness.

It will be recalled that on 19th April, 2023, a year after he fell ill, the GFA President, Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku led a delegation of football administrators and former Black Stars Players to visit him where the GFA Foundation made a financial donation to assist with his recovery.

The Ghana Football Association and the entire football community is grateful to Nii Sabahn Quaye for his dedication, enthusiasm and commitment to Ghana football.

The Association extends heartfelt condolences to his family, widow, and children and urges the entire Football community to support the family to bid him a befitting and honorable farewell.

Present at the meeting were Robert Quaye, family head and brother of the late Sabahn Quaye, E. J. Larbie, Nat Quaye, Rev. Canon Prof. John J. M. Martey and the widow, Mrs. Deborah Quaye.
