Nigeria and Algeria will have to dig deep to motivate themselves for Saturday's third place play-off at the Africa Cup of Nations.

Joseph Yobo may make a shock return for Nigeria after a hamstring problem and Onyekachi Apam is back from suspension.

Algeria's Faouzi Chaouchi, Rafik Halliche and Nadir Belhadj are suspended after being sent off in Thursday's semi-final against Egypt.

It is a return to Benguela for Nigeria, after playing their group games there.

Both sides are hoping to bounce back from semi-final losses to fierce local rivals and start looking ahead to the World Cup in South Africa in June.

The Super Eagles failed to make the best of several goal-scoring chances as they lost to a youthful Ghana team courtesy of a first-half winner from Asamoah Gyan.

This is the second time that Nigeria coach Shaibu Amodu has failed to reach the Nations Cup final after his team also lost to Senegal in 2002.

Amodu could welcome back his captain Yobo whose tournament looked to be over after he limped off during Nigeria's 1-0 win over Benin in their second Group C game.

Nigeria and Algeria last clashed at full international level in 2005 with the west Africans running away 5-2 winners in Algiers in a 2006 World Cup qualifier.
