President Simeon-Okraku updates Congress on progress at Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence
President Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku has provided a comprehensive update on the progress of work at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence (GSCE), describing the flagship facility as a lasting legacy for Ghana football and a critical hub for talent development, technical education and high-performance training.
In an address to the 32nd Ordinary Session of Congress, President Simeon-Okraku said steady progress had been made on several key projects at the technical centre, with further developments expected in the coming months.
The GFA President announced that the multipurpose tennis court has been fully completed, while construction of the gymnasium has also been completed.
The Football Association is now working with FIFA to equip the gymnasium with modern, state-of-the-art equipment to support the physical preparation, conditioning and rehabilitation needs of Ghana's national teams and domestic clubs.
The facility is expected to become an important component of the GFA's high-performance infrastructure, providing athletes with improved resources to prepare for elite-level competition.
President Simeon-Okraku also announced that all administrative processes for the construction of a 40-bed accommodation facility at the GSCE have been concluded, paving the way for construction to begin.
The project, named the Qatar 2022 CourtYard, is being financed through proceeds from Ghana's participation at the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, supplemented by the GFA's internally generated funds.
The accommodation facility forms part of the GFA's broader plans to improve the Centre's capacity to host and develop young footballers, national teams and other football stakeholders.
A major milestone in the development of the Centre has also been achieved with the resolution of a prolonged land dispute.
President Simeon-Okraku said the GFA had finally secured the property following years of litigation and had successfully fenced the entire 64.25-acre GSCE land.
“After a prolonged period of litigation over the land at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence (GSCE), the GFA has finally secured the property,” he said.
A new main entrance has also been constructed to improve access to the facility.
President Simeon-Okraku said the continued development of the GSCE is central to the GFA's long-term vision for football infrastructure in Ghana.
“I am pleased to report that steady progress continues to be made on the development of the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence, our flagship infrastructure project that will serve as a lasting legacy for Ghana football and a centre for talent development, technical education, and high-performance training.” he told Congress.
