The Ghana Premier League returns to action this weekend with Matchday 2 set to unfold across seven centres, promising another compelling round of top-flight football.
With teams looking to build on their opening-day results, while others seek an immediate response, the second round of fixtures offers a fascinating mix of high-stakes encounters, intriguing battles and early opportunities to make a statement.
Swedru All Blacks vs Debini United
The Black Magicians suffered a narrow 1-0 loss to Basake Holy Stars last weekend, extending their run of consecutive opening-day defeats since returning to the Premier League. However, their strong home record last season offers encouragement. All Blacks recorded eight wins, seven draws and just two defeats in 17 home league matches.
Debibi United made an impressive top-flight debut, fighting back from a goal down to draw 2-2 with Asante Kotoko. The newcomers also boast an encouraging away record from last season’s Division One campaign, having recorded six wins, three draws and five defeats. They will be confident of causing another upset as they chase their first Premier League victory.
Asante Kotoko vs Heart of Lions
Asante Kotoko will target their first victory of the season when they host Heart of Lions at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi in their first home fixture of the campaign.
The Porcupine Warriors opened with a 2-2 draw against Debibi United, extending their unbeaten run on the opening day to five seasons but also their winless run across all competitions to four matches.
Kotoko have won three of their last five home league games, but Heart of Lions have proved a difficult opponent in Kumasi.
The Kpando side have avoided defeat in their last three league visits to Baba Yara, recording two draws and a win while keeping Kotoko scoreless in each encounter. Heart of Lions travel to Kumasi with poor recent away form, having gone winless in their last five league matches on the road.
Berekum Chelsea vs Dreams FC
Chelsea were thrashed 4-0 by Hearts of Oak last weekend, suffering their heaviest league defeat since September 2025. They can take confidence from their outstanding home record last season, when they recorded 12 wins from 17 matches and currently boast five consecutive home league victories.
Dreams FC begin their campaign after their opening fixture against Medeama was postponed due to the champions’ CAF Champions League commitments.
The Still Believe side finished fourth last season and scored 49 goals, the second-highest tally in the league. They are unbeaten in their last seven matches across all competitions and will be seeking to overcome a difficult recent record in Berekum, where they have won just once in their last six league visits.
Karela United vs Bechem United
Karela suffered a 3-1 defeat to Samartex on the opening day, ending a run of four consecutive season-opening wins. They were, however, among the league’s strongest home teams last season, recording 12 wins, three draws and two defeats.
Bechem United travel to the north with confidence after defeating Bibiani GoldStars 1-0. The Hunters also enjoyed an impressive away campaign last season and have won three of their last five league matches on the road.
Karela have dominated recent home meetings between the sides, winning four of their last six encounters in Tamale, and will be determined to maintain that advantage.
Aduana FC vs FC Samartex 1996
The Fire Club began with a goalless draw against Heart of Lions but remain unbeaten. Their impressive home record last season, featuring nine wins, seven draws and only one defeat, will provide confidence.
Samartex made an excellent start under new head coach Nana Kwaku Agyemang, defeating Karela United 3-1. The Timber Giants have never lost away to Aduana in the Premier League since their promotion, recording two wins and two draws.
However, Samartex will need to overcome three consecutive away defeats and a failure to score in each of those matches.
Bibiani Gold Stars vs Hearts of Oak
The Miners have gone four matches without a win and will be eager to rediscover the form that made them the league’s best home side last season. GoldStars won 15 of their 17 home matches and remained unbeaten at Dun’s Park, scoring 34 goals.
Hearts of Oak travel to the mining town in emphatic form after dismantling Berekum Chelsea 4-0. The Phobians also ranked as the league’s best away side last season, collecting seven wins, five draws and five defeats while conceding just eight goals.
The encounter promises to be a major test of GoldStars’ formidable home record against a Hearts side that has made an early statement of intent.
Young Apostles vs Basake Holy Stars
Young Apostles will be desperate to respond after their 3-0 opening-day defeat to Vision FC when they host Basake Holy Stars.
The loss extended Young Apostles’ run of opening-day defeats to three since their promotion in 2024/25. They will draw confidence from their home record last season, winning 11 of 17 matches while scoring 30 goals.
Basake Holy Stars arrive with momentum following their 1-0 victory over Swedru All Blacks. The result extended their unbeaten opening-day run to three seasons and gives them an opportunity to start a campaign with consecutive wins for the first time since reaching the Premier League.
Their away record, however, remains a concern. Holy Stars were the league’s second-worst away side last season, winning just once, drawing five and losing 11 of their 17 matches on the road.
Young Apostles have also won each of their last two home league meetings with Holy Stars by a 2-0 scoreline, setting the stage for another intriguing contest in Wenchi.
