The Premier League Board has directed that a minute’s silence should be observed before kick-off at all match venues this weekend as a mark of respect for former Asante Kotoko and Olympics midfielder Michael Asante who passed away this week.

The former footballer reportedly passed away on Wednesday afternoon after he was rushed to the hospital on Tuesday when he seriously fell ill.

Asante was an occasional member of the senior national team, the Black Stars during the peak of his career with Kotoko.

He was a also key member of Coach Herbert Addo's Kotoko squad in the early 2000's.

In recognition of the passing away of the ex footballer, players are also expected to put on black armbands during Sunday’s Premier League matches.
