Ghana internationals, Sulley Muntari and Eric Bekoe are in line for the media sponsored Sports Personality of the Year Award for 2008.
The duo together with international boxer, Joshua Clottey, who is the International Boxing Federation (IBF) Welterweight Champion are in reckoning for the award based on their performances for the year under review.
There are lots of nominations from other sporting disciplines but football would certainly dominate the awards event.
Eric Bekoe, who last season set the Premiership alight with his goal scoring prowess has been nominated for three award categories. The former Asante Kotoko striker scored 17 goals last season to help the Porcupine Warriors win the domestic title.
The Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) runs an annual awards event to honour personalities for their exceptional performers and contributions in sports.
According to SWAG, the organisers, the public would have 40% stake in determining the winner via a text poll while members of the group, making up of the 60% decide by voting.
Football has other personalities lined up for awards which SWAG says would be presented later in the year.
Black Stars defender, John Paintsil who plays for Fulham and Eric Bekoe will vie for the Footballer of the Year Award, an award which was last won by Michael Essien.
This set of award would also be determined by the public and SWAG with the organisers holding out a 60% stake through voting while the public contribute by a text poll, which would make up for the remaining 40%.
Black Satellites teammates, Dominic Adiyiah, Samuel Inkoom would be up against Eric Bekoe for the Premiership Player of the Year award.
Aaron Amoah of Tudu Mighty Jets and who played for the Black Starlets has been nominated for the Most Promising Player of the Year while the Discovery of the Year award would go Florence Dadson of the Black Maidens.
Former Ghana international, Emmanuel Quarshie has been selected for a Special Meritorious Award.
Ghana’s female Under-17 side, the Black Maidens have been nominated for the Team of the Year.
Eric Bekoe would pick the Top scorer award while Mercy Tagoe goes for the Referee of the Year award.
