Western Region recorded their first victory of the MTN Elite U19 Championship after edging Upper West 2–1 in a tightly contested Matchday Three match on Sunday morning at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram.

Ahmed Yankey broke the deadlock in the 38th minute to hand Western Region a deserved lead before Dominic Arthur doubled the advantage just two minutes into the second half with a brilliant strike.

Upper West fought back and reduced the deficit through Bashiru Iddrisu, but their late surge proved insufficient as Western held firm to secure all three points and claim their maiden win of the tournament.

The result marked an important turnaround for Western Region, who had suffered defeats to Northern and Eastern Regions in their opening two matches. Upper West, meanwhile, continue to search for their first victory after three outings.

Running from October 23 to November 2, 2025, the MTN Elite U19 Championship brings together ten Regional Football Association (RFA) U-19 teams from across Ghana. The competition serves as a vital platform for the country’s most promising young footballers to showcase their skills, gain valuable competitive experience, and attract the attention of national youth team selectors and professional scouts.

Powered by MTN Ghana, the championship reinforces the Ghana Football Association’s unwavering commitment to youth football development — creating a clear and structured pathway for emerging talents to progress from grassroots football to the national and professional stages.
