Volta Region secured their first victory of the MTN Elite U19 Championship with a hard-fought 1–0 win over Upper East Region on Saturday at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram.
A 34th-minute strike from Nathaniel Adanu proved decisive, separating the two sides in a closely contested encounter. The result marked an important response from Volta Region, who bounced back impressively from their 3–1 defeat to Ashanti Region in their opening Group B fixture.
For Upper East, the loss extends their winless run in the competition after suffering a 4–0 defeat to Greater Accra in their first match.
Bawa Mahdi was the hero for Eastern, curling home a delightful freekick to secure the victory and maintain their 100% record in the championship. Prince Boakye, Eastern’s lively left winger, was named Best Player of the Match for his impressive performance.
While Eastern Region remain unbeaten and sit comfortably atop their group, Western Region are still searching for their first win after back-to-back defeats.
Proudly sponsored by MTN Ghana, the tournament highlights the Ghana Football Association’s unwavering commitment to youth football development, creating a structured pathway for emerging talents to progress from grassroots football to the national and professional stages.
