MTN Elite U19: Central Region beat Upper East on penalties as both teams exit Championship
Central Region recorded a 3-2 victory in a penalty shootout over Upper East after an entertaining 2-2 draw in regulation time, as both sides bowed out of the MTN Elite U19 Championship at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram on Wednesday.
The result means both teams have been eliminated from Group B, with Central Region finishing fourth on five points from four matches, while Upper East managed just one point from the same number of games.
Upper East took an early lead through Webonga Eric in the 13th minute, but their advantage was short-lived as Kenneth Boateng equalised almost immediately in the 14th minute. The northern side regained the lead through Mundasidu Seidu, before Yaw Yeboah Dasman struck again for Central to level the score and force a penalty shootout.
With Volta Region having completed their fixtures, attention now shifts to the highly anticipated clash between Greater Accra and Ashanti Region, which will determine the Group B winner in Wednesday’s final match at the FIFA Pitch at the Technical Centre in Prampram.
Proudly powered by MTN Ghana, the championship reinforces the Ghana Football Association’s (GFA) commitment to youth football development by providing a structured and sustainable pathway from grassroots to the professional level — nurturing the next generation of Ghanaian football stars.
