Ashanti Region produced a resilient performance to defeat Greater Accra Region 2–1 in a thrilling final Group B encounter of the MTN Elite U19 Championship on Wednesday, sealing top spot and securing a place in the semi-finals alongside their rivals.
The much-anticipated clash at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence lived up to expectations, showcasing intensity, skill and determination from both sides.
Ebenezer Anane opened the scoring for Ashanti in the 22nd minute, setting the tone for a fiercely contested battle. Greater Accra’s hopes of a comeback were dented in the 85th minute when Afetse Emmanuel inadvertently turned the ball into his own net, doubling Ashanti’s advantage.
The result means Ashanti Region finish at the summit of Group B with 10 points, just one ahead of Greater Accra, who also advance to the semi-finals. Both teams have been among the standout performers in the tournament and their qualification sets up an exciting knockout stage.
With the group phase now concluded, attention shifts to the semi-final matches on Friday, October 31, followed by the grand final on Sunday, November 2, 2025.
