Ashanti Region delivered a stunning performance on Matchday Three of the MTN Elite U19 Championship, thrashing Upper East 7–0 on Sunday to underline their growing credentials as serious contenders in the maiden edition of the tournament.
The dominant display at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence saw Ashanti score four times in the first half before adding three more after the break, inflicting the heaviest defeat of the competition so far.
Farouk Sandah opened the floodgates in the 9th minute, setting the tone for what would become a one-sided affair. Isaac Duentiba doubled the lead just four minutes later, before Collins Osei and Alex Banso added two quick goals in the 36th and 39th minutes, respectively, to complete a commanding first-half performance.
Desmond Suglo’s outstanding performance earned him the Player of the Match award, capping off a memorable outing for the Ashanti side.
After just two matches, Ashanti Region have now scored 10 goals and conceded only once, the highest scoring team in the 11-day championship so far.
