MTN Elite U-19: Upper West take control of Group A as Group B qualification race goes down to the wire
Upper West Region have taken firm control of Group A, while the battle for qualification in Group B remains finely poised after the conclusion of Matchday 2 of the 2026 MTN Elite U-19 Championship.
Upper West continued their impressive campaign with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Volta Region, making it two wins from two matches and taking their tally to a maximum six points.
Their perfect start puts them at the summit of Group A, with defending champions Eastern Region occupying second place on three points. Ashanti Region sit third with two points, while Volta Region and Western Region have one point each, leaving the group delicately poised as the teams head into the next round of matches.
Greater Accra currently lead the group on goal difference, following their emphatic opening-day victory. Brong Ahafo Region occupy second place, with Central Region third, while Upper East Region sit fourth - all four sides having accumulated three points.
At the bottom of the group, Northern Region remain without a point after two matches and will need a strong response in their remaining fixtures to revive their hopes of progressing to the next stage.
The contrasting Group A and Group B standings underline the competitive nature of this year's MTN Elite U-19 Championship. While Upper West have established an early advantage in Group A, the fight for the qualifying positions in Group B remains wide open.
