MTN Elite U-19: Ofosu and Korlettey stand out as Northern, Central claim crucial Group B wins

Brong Ahafo Region’s Bright Ofosu and Central Region’s Desmond Korlettey were the standout performers in Friday’s Group B fixtures of the MTN Elite U-19 Championship, earning Most Valuable Player honours despite contrasting results for their respective teams.

Ofosu claimed the individual accolade following Brong Ahafo Region’s dramatic 3-2 penalty shootout defeat to Northern Region, after the two sides had battled to a thrilling 2-2 draw in regulation time.

The youngster delivered an impressive performance throughout the contest and was rewarded with the MVP award despite his side ultimately falling short in the decisive penalty shootout.

Brong Ahafo had taken an early lead through Kwaku Frimpong Jnr before Northern Region fought back to level the scores. Northern subsequently went ahead, only for Brong Ahafo to restore parity and force the encounter into a penalty shootout.

Northern Region eventually held their nerve to secure a 3-2 victory from the spot, but Ofosu’s influential display did not go unnoticed as he was recognised as the game’s Most Valuable Player.

Korlettey inspires Central Region to late victory

Central Region’s Desmond Korlettey also earned MVP honours after playing a significant role in his side’s dramatic 1-0 victory over Greater Accra Region in the final Group B fixture of the day.

Korlettey produced an influential display as Central Region remained resolute against a Greater Accra side that had impressed with its attacking performances earlier in the competition.

The match appeared destined for a goalless finish until Kwame Amoako struck in the 91st minute, producing a late winner to hand Central Region a valuable three points.

Korlettey’s contribution to the victory earned him the Most Valuable Player award and capped a memorable outing for Central Region.

The competition continues to provide an important platform for some of Ghana’s brightest young footballers to develop their technical and tactical abilities while gaining valuable competitive experience that can contribute significantly to their growth and future careers.
