Greater Accra Region made a statement of intent in their opening Group B fixture at the ongoing MTN Elite U-19 Championship, thrashing Upper East Region 4–0 at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram.

The capital-based side were dominant from start to finish, scoring twice in each half to secure an emphatic win on the FIFA-standard pitch. Their fluid attacking play and composure in front of goal proved too much for the Upper East side, who struggled to contain the relentless pressure throughout the game.

The result gives Greater Accra the perfect start to their campaign, underlining their credentials as one of the early favourites for the title.

In Group A, Northern Region edged Western Region 1–0 in a closely contested match, thanks to a decisive strike from Abubakari Salim, who netted the only goal of the encounter.

The 11-day championship, running from October 23 to November 2, 2025, features ten Regional Football Association (RFA) U-19 teams from across Ghana. The tournament serves as a vital platform for the country’s most promising young footballers to showcase their talents, gain valuable experience, and attract the attention of national youth team coaches and professional scouts.

Proudly sponsored by MTN Ghana, the Elite U-19 Championship is a flagship component of the GFA’s “Power to the Youth” initiative, aimed at unearthing, nurturing, and developing young football talent.

Beyond competition, the tournament also seeks to instill values of discipline, teamwork, and perseverance, forming part of the Football Association’s broader vision to build a strong foundation for the future of Ghanaian football.
