Wigan Athletic boss Steve Bruce's search for a new defensive signing could see him go for the highly sort after Ghanaian, John Mensah.
Bruce's assistant Eric Black has checked out the Rennes central defender John Mensah.
Portsmouth, Bolton and Blackburn have all been linked with Mensah but Wigan have been initially put off by a £7m price tag.
Wigan are expected to try to sign the Ghanaian defender again by offering cash and a swap deal involving another player.
