Malta Guinness Women's Premier League: Northern Zone Matchday 8 Preview

The Malta Guinness Women’s Premier League kicks resumes this weekend after going on an eight-week break for the FIFA World Cup.

The elite Club competition produced loads of excitement across the two Zones, Northern and Southern with giants Hasaacas Ladies and Champions Ampem Darkoa Ladies taking full control of the competition. The two top teams recorded 10 wins between them, drawing one and losing one each in their respective zones.

Hasaacas Ladies are being pursued by Faith Ladies and Army Ladies in the Southern zone whiles Pearl Pia Ladies and Prisons Ladies continue to mount pressure on leaders Ampem Darkoa Ladies in the Northern Zone.

The twenty participating clubs are expected to continue from where they left off as the race for the title continues unabated. Find below preview for Match Day 8 in the Northern Zone:

DREAMZ LADIES VRS PRISONS LADIES

Dreamz Ladies will be at home to Prisons Ladies at Bantama Astro Turf on Saturday. The visitors recorded a 4:1 victory over Candy Soccer Academy before the World Cup and are buzzing with optimism going inti this fixture. Dreamz Ladies were also held 2:2 BY Northern Ladies in a difficult away game that took place at the Aliu Mahama Sports stadium in Tamale. Dreamz Ladies are 5th in the League table with 11 points, a point behind Prisons Ladies who lie in 3rd place with 12 points. A win for either side will push them further in the table.

PERALPIA LADIES VRS ASHTOWN LADIES

Pearl Pia Ladies started the season on a good note, losing just a game and winning five matches in the opening seven games of the season. The Tamale based side lie in 2nd place but share the same points (16) with League leaders Ampem Darkoa Ladies who have a superior goal advantage. Ashtown Ladies have also had a good run having lost one, won three and drawn three games in the season. Four points separate the two sides, with the latter, trailing the former in the table in 4th place with 12 points. This fixture will be a tough one as both teams went into the break bagging all maximum points on Matchday 7.

 

CANDY SOCCER ACADEMY VRS TAMALE SUPER LADIES

The two debutants will face each other for the first time in the top tier League. Both sides are yet to make an impressive mark but Tamale Super Ladies have been better than the home side in terms of performance. Candy Soccer Academy lie bottom of the League table with only 3 points from a possible 21 and will hope to get all maximum points to boost their chances of survival in the League. Candy Soccer Academy are 8th in the table with 7 points.

 

AMPEM DARKOA LADIES VRS SUPREME LADIES

While Ampem Darkoa Ladies are currently top of the table in the Northern Zone, the visitors lie mid table with 8 points – 8 points adrift of their host. The Techiman based side have been free scoring with Ophelia Serwaa Amponsah remaining a key figure in the team and looks set to continue her fine goal scoring form for the champions. Supreme Ladies lost their last League fixture by 3:1 and will fight to redeem themselves at a very difficult terrain. With PearPia Ladies set to face Ashtown Ladies on Saturday, the leaders will fancy their chances against struggling Supreme Ladies at home to keep the competition healthy in the Zone.

FABULOUS LADIES VRS NORTHERN LADIES

Fabulous Ladies are struggling this season and are hoping to improve their performance to keep their League status. They are 9th in the League table with three points following six defeats and one win in the previous seven matches of the season. Northern Ladies haven’t had the best of seasons themselves - the Tamale side have won just a game and drawn 6, leaving them two places above their opponents and five points richer. The match will take place at Bantama Astro Turf on Monday, January 30, 2023.
