Kalusha charges all to work in unison

Zambia football legend, Kalusha Bwalya has told participants at the Fifa Com-Unity seminar in Accra to strive to unite to develop the game.

Kalusha, the representative of Fifa President Sepp Blatter, says Fifa recognizes the effect of grassroots football development, hence the programme.

Ghana is hosting the three-day Com-Unity seminar, the first-ever in West Africa.

The seminar which has gathered various football stakeholders to deliberate on the values of the sport aimed at developing the game at the grassroots level begun on Tuesday.

The former player now President of the Football Association of Zambia told the gathering that for success to be achieved, all stakeholders will have to pull together but in the right direction.

"Fifa's role and contribution in football and global development can never be over-emphasised. The responsibility we have in football - at the individual level, to our teams and to our society is so great. The influence of the game and its ability to transform society and unite people is evident the world over.

"We all have the ability to contribute to the development of the game. We all have the ability to help transform our societies and help especially the young to advance and further develop their talents and skills especially on the field of play.

"We need to be motivated to work with the grassroots because the grassroots is the foundation upon which our societies are built.

"We see and watch great football in top leagues around the world. We watch professionals right here in Ghana entertain us with great skills. The Michael Essiens, Stephen Appiah for us to have any, continuity and improvement in our game, talent needs to be nurtured.

"Therefore, the challenge for us is to work hard, to be more united and have patience especially at times when we seemingly are doing our best but not being appreciated.

"At times, work in the area of football is thankless but that should never make us take our eyes off the ball to realising the goals and dreams of reaching the highest levels of success.
