Kade Hotspurs’ challenge for the sole premiership ticket after a massive takeover by a TV entrepreneur got off on a stuttering note after been held to a 1-1 draw by Zaytuna FC at the Legon Park on match-day-1 of the promotion league in Zone III on Tuesday.
The former premiership campaigner directed from the bench an experienced hand in former Asante Kotoko coach, Sunday Ibrahim opened the scoring on the 15th minute mark when Joshua Quarshigah drilled in a powerful shot past Zaytuna goalkeeper, Emmanuel Tagoe.
Twelve minutes later, Zaytuna cancelled out their lead. Attacker, Ofori Quaye’s goal in the 26th minute put his side on level pegging.
Zaytuna could have jumped into the lead after the equalizer but Frank Boateng’s header was prevented from entering as Hotspur goalkeeper, Mustapha Bampoe, saved his effort in the 35th minute.
At the El-Wak stadium, Fairpoint FC got much more than a fair result as they secured a 1-0 win over Seven United. Awal Ibrahim scored the match winner eight minutes into the game.
Fairpoint captain, Stephen Tetteh failed to double their lead ten minutes later after having his spot kick saved. But the Kpone-based side held onto their lone goal lead.
The lone goal separated both sides as Fairpoint go top of the standings after the opening round of matches while Seven United drop to the bottom of the four-club table Kade Hotspurs and Zaytuna FC lie second and third on the log after a 1-1 draw in the other game.
Match-day-2 of the promotion campaign comes up on Thursday.
