Heart of Lions face off with Asante Kotoko Saturday

The Ghana Premier League resumes this weekend after a 52 day break for the Africa Cup of Nations Cote D’Ivoire 2024. Domestic competitions returned on February 13 when Karela United knocked out Asante Kotoko from the MTN FA Cup following a 2-0 win at the Aliu Mahama stadium in Tamale paving way for the Premier League this weekend.

Bottom placed Heart of Lions will host former champions Asante Kotoko who are third in the League log – 3 points behind leaders FC Samartex 1996 and 1 point adrift of second placed Aduana FC.

Heart of Lions are bottom of the league table with 15 points, having won 2, drawn 1 and suffered 2 defeats in their last 5 league games. The Kpando lads have won 2, drawn 5 and lost 2 games – scoring 7 and conceding 6 goals in the process.

Asante Kotoko are 3rd in the league table with 29 points and are unbeaten in their last 5 league games with 4 wins and one draw.

The Porcupine Warriors have won 4, drawn 2, lost 3 on the road – scored 12 and conceded 9 goals so far and recorded the most away wins after the first round.

Kpando Heart of Lions return to Kpando for the first time this season after switching venue from Hohoe where they played the first half of the season. They have accumulated 11 points and sit in 18th place in the Premier league standings, Asante Kotoko boasts the most away points after managing 29 points in the first round.

Heart of Lions managed to pick a point from Asante Kotoko when the two sides met at the Baba Yara Sports stadium in the first round of the season.

Stephen Mukwala Desse is the top scorer for the Porcupine Warriors and will hope to add to his 8-goal tally as he chases for the top scorers award. Captain Richmond Lamptey, Isaac Oppong, Henry Ansu, Mohammed Sherif, Yusif Nurudeen, Justice Blay, Yahaya Baba, Michael Kyei and new signing, Emmanuel Kotei are all available for selection.

Heart of Lions coach Bashir Hayford will lead Heart of Lions against one of his former employers having led Asante Kotoko to the title in 2007/08. The likes of Ebenezer Abban, Bismark Anim, Christian Boateng, Yaw Danso, Ruben Hennessy, Denis Hutor, Kwesi Pong, Seedorf Asante and new signing Godfred Kwadwo Asamoah are in line to feature for Lions.
