The innovative Girls for Goals initiative, a dynamic project aimed at promoting gender equality through the power of sports, education, and healthy living, is set to culminate in a grand final event on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, at Adaklu Waya in the Volta Region.
Launched as a collaborative effort between the Ghana Football Association (GFA), FIFA, La Guilde, and GIZ (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit), the project has successfully engaged young people across the Adaklu District, Keta, and Ho Municipalities—empowering them with life-changing experiences both on and off the pitch.
The final leg of the program will feature a Student Forum and Community Engagement Session at Adaklu Waya, bringing together stakeholders, educators, and youth for a vibrant exchange of ideas and inspiration. Key speakers include:
-
Vera Abena Addo, Program Officer, Centre for Democratic Development (CDD)
-
Marian Mensah, Director of Legal, Ghana Football Association
-
Fafali Dumehasi, former Black Queens goalkeeper and current Team Manager of the Black Princesses
The day's activities will also include mixed football drills involving both girls and boys, further emphasizing the project’s core value of inclusion and equality. Two sets of drills will be conducted, focusing on skill development, teamwork, and mutual respect.
To cap off the event, the Adaklu Senior High School will receive footballs and branded items from sponsors as part of the program’s legacy to sustain enthusiasm for football in the community.
The Girls for Goals project underscores the GFA's broader commitment to youth empowerment and gender parity in football, and this final event promises to be a powerful celebration of progress, partnership, and potential.
