Ghana’s national amputee football team, the Black Challenge, have been drawn in Group D of the 2026 WAFF Amputee Football World Cup, where they will face Angola, Colombia and Iraq in the global championship in Mexico.
The tournament is scheduled for 13–22 November 2026 in San Juan de los Lagos, Mexico, and will bring together 24 national teams from Africa, Asia, Europe and the Americas.
The Group D draw brings together teams from three continents and sets up a significant test for the reigning African champions. Ghana will meet fellow African representatives Angola, alongside Colombia from South America and Iraq from Asia.
Angola enter the competition with an impressive World Cup pedigree, having won the global title in 2018 in Mexico and finished runners-up in 2022.
The Black Challenge, meanwhile, arrive at the World Cup with a strong record on the African continent. Ghana won the African Amputee Football Championship in 2021, claimed gold at the inaugural African Para Games in Accra in 2023, and successfully defended their African title in Cairo in 2024, defeating Morocco 2–1 in the final. The 2024 triumph secured Ghana's qualification for the 2026 World Cup.
The Ghana Football Association has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the Black Challenge in collaboration with the National Amputee Football Association of Ghana and the Ministry of Sports and Recreation. The GFA has also affirmed the support of Gold Fields Ghana Limited towards the team's preparations for the World Cup.
With the group now confirmed, attention will turn to the team's final preparations, including squad selection, camping, tactical preparation and logistical arrangements ahead of the trip to Mexico.
The Black Challenge will be seeking to translate their continental success onto the world stage when they take on Angola, Colombia and Iraq in Group D.
