Ghana is set to face host nation Egypt in the quarterfinals of the ongoing TotalEnergies U-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Egypt 2025, following the conclusion of the group stage matches. The high-stakes encounter will take place at the New Suez Stadium on Monday, 12th May 2025.

The Black Satellites topped Group C with seven points, remaining unbeaten throughout the group phase. Their campaign began with a draw, followed by two convincing victories that saw them secure a return to their base in Suez as group leaders. Ghana, the 2021 U-20 AFCON champions, will be looking to extend their strong run and secure qualification for the FIFA U-20 World Cup Chile 2025, which awaits the winners of the quarterfinal ties.

Hosts Egypt, meanwhile, had a turbulent path to the knockouts. After an encouraging opening day victory over South Africa, the Pharaohs suffered a shocking 4-1 loss to Sierra Leone, casting doubt over their progression. However, they managed to rally in their final group match to clinch a spot in the last eight, finishing third in Group A.

With World Cup qualification on the line, Monday’s clash is expected to be fiercely contested. Both sides bring history and ambition to the tie, promising a thrilling fixture at the New Suez Stadium.

In the other quarterfinal matches, Nigeria and Senegal will meet in a heavyweight West African derby, with Morocco facing an enterprising Sierra Leone side. South Africa and the Democratic Republic of Congo will lock horns in the last quarterfinal match.
