Ghana were denied an opening win in the qualifying for the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations as they rallied from a goal down to salvage a 1-1 draw with Uganda.
Andre Ayew canceled out Tony Mawejje's opener for Uganda as both sides shared the spoils in the Group E contest.
Kwesi Appiah's side will now need to turn their focus on the next game in the group against Togo in Lome on Wednesday.
It was a frustrating start for the Black Stars who had the best chances in the first half but constantly failed to get past Cranes goalkeeper Dennis Onyango.
Onyango saved with his feet Gyan's header from the far post before keeping out a free kick and rounded up the first half blocking the Ghana captain's side-foot with his leg after he had controlled beautifully a cross from Kwadwo Asamoah.
The Cranes goalie then grabbed a grounder by Ayew but at the other end, Uganda's first real test resulted in a goal, which stunned the home crowd at the Baba Yara Stadium.
Mawejje drew first blood on the stroke of half-time when his shot from outside the box bounced off the turf to beat goalkeeper Fatau Dauda, who was at full stretch.
The goal sparked a response from Ghana but the visitors went into the break in the lead.
It took Ghana five minutes after the break to draw level. Ayew scored to give Ghana a point after converting from the spot following a foul on Majeed Waris in the box.
The equaliser was the attacker's seventh international goal and his first from the spot for the Black Stars.
Uganda also jumped into the lead but Dauda was saved by the up-right after he failed to make a first time save from Luwagga Kizito's shot.
After 65 minutes, Ghana ringed the changes with Kwesi Appiah making a double substitution.
On came Afriyie Acquah and Mubarak Wakaso for Rabiu Mohammed and Christian Atsu.
The Black Stars went chasing the lead but the Uganda's with a well-knit defence repelled their attacks and went on the counter posing problems for the Ghana backline of John Boye, Jonathan Mensah, Harrison Afful and Jeffrey Schlupp.
There were nervy moments as the time ticked and Ghana threw in their final card as Jordan Ayew came in for Waris.
It was an end to end action as both sides went away with a point apiece.
