GFA extends condolences to Egypt

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) is shocked and saddened by the tragic incident in Egypt which led to the death and injury of football fans.

Following a league match between Al-Ahly and Al Masry in Port Said on Wednesday night, violence ensued leaving more than 70 people dead and over a thousand injured.

“The GFA would like to send our condolences to the Egyptian Football fraternity and all in Egypt affected by this tragic event. Ghana and Egypt have strong ties and we are also in a state of mourning because of this incident,” a statement signed by Kwesi Nyantakyi, president of the GFA said.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of all those who lost their lives.”

A minute’s silence will be held before the weekend’s quarter-final matches at the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations.
