The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has approved the appointment of selected young female referees under its “Catch Them Young” initiative, as well as a female Commissioner, for the upcoming Oldies International friendly match between Ghana and Togo.

The international friendly, dubbed the Grannies International Football Friendly Match, will feature former women footballers from Ghana and Togo.

The game is scheduled to take place on February 28, 2026, at the McDan Park in Accra at 3:00 PM.

The match will see the Oldies Stars of Ghana face off against the Association of Femme Foot Santé – Togo, a team made up of former women footballers committed to promoting health, fitness, and friendship through the sport.

The GFA’s decision to appoint young female referees forms part of its broader effort to empower and develop the next generation of women match officials. The “Catch Them Young” initiative is aimed at identifying and nurturing talented young female referees, providing them with practical exposure on notable platforms to build confidence and competence.

Organizers say the friendly is designed to strengthen sporting ties between Ghana and Togo while promoting women’s football, friendship, and sportsmanship across West Africa.

Both teams are also using the encounter as part of their preparations toward the Grannies International Football Tournament scheduled to be hosted in South Africa in 2027.

The event is expected to attract football enthusiasts, stakeholders, and supporters of women’s football, as it celebrates the enduring passion of former players and creates opportunities for the next generation of female football players.
