National women’s Under-20 team coach, Mumuni Gamel has taken charge of the technical duties of the senior team, the Black Queens following last week’s technical changes by the Ghana Football Association.

The Ghana Football Association on Friday replaced the entire coaching set-up of the Black Queens team.

Black Queens head coach Isaac Paha, his assistant Dan Owusu and Dora Zutah, the team’s goalkeeper’s trainer were affected by the technical changes.

Gamel together with his assistant, Ben Fokou after assuming reins of the team, conducted their first training session on Saturday at the national camp in Prampram ahead of the return leg of the Africa Women’s Championships qualifier against Ivory Coast this weekend.

Head of the Black Queens Management Committee, Fred Crentsil says a decision had to be taken by the Ghana Football Association in the interest of the team.

“We had to act to stem the poor run recorded by the team lately. The FA has been much concerned about the team’s performance and took the decision.

“The Black Queens have been playing well but haven’t been playing well since the World Cup till now. It is a risk taken but we need to save the situation and improve the team.” Fred Crentsil said.

Ghana would need a good result on Saturday to qualify for the Africa Women’s Championships at the Ohene Djan Stadium in Accra after tying the first leg match in Macoury 1-1.
