Final heartbreak for Ghana star

There was joy and pain for Ghana in the FA Cup final at the Wembley Stadium as Michael Essien's Chelsea were winners at the expense of Kevin-Prince Boateng's Portsmouth.

Boateng will rue a spot kick miss, with Chelsea going on to win the Cup 1-0 on Saturday.

In a game which witnessed two penalty misses with the other by Chelsea's Frank Lampard, it took Didier Drogba's goal from a free-kick to settle the tie in Wembley.

The Ghana midfielder who was passed fit for the game could have put Portsmouth in the lead in the second half but his tame spot kick was kept out by the legs of Blues goalkeeper, Petr Cech.

Despite Chelsea missing Essien, who is still recovering from injury, Drogba ensured that Portsmouth paid for their miss when he scored before the hour mark after the London side had hit the woodwork five times in the first half.

For Boateng who scored a penalty during Portsmouth's semi-final victory over Tottenham to send his side into the final, the miss will come as a big blow for a club who could have used the Cup glory to placate their many problems as they are relegated to the Championship.

However Portsmouth manager, Avram Grant attributed no blame to Boateng, saying: "Win as a team, lose as a team. It happens even to the best.

"Unfortunately it's happened to me twice. What can you do? We played tactically very well, we gave everything. The fans were great. Unfortunately we couldn't win."

But for Essien, despite having missed half the season due to injury, it represents a rather good campaign for Chelsea.
