Michael Essien has assured Jose Mourinho that he will be fit for Chelsea's clash with Portsmouth on Saturday.

The midfielder went down clutching his knee after a challenge in Ghana's 1-1 draw with Senegal on Tuesday.

He was substituted after 77 minutes but immediately eased any fears about his fitness.

"They were aggressive and the tackles started to fly, but we are used to it in African football," Essien told Sky Sports News.

"It's all part of African football but I'm okay, I'm not injured."

Gyan Asamoah fired Ghana ahead in the friendly at The Den, only for Bolton's El Hadji Diouf to equalise for Senegal.
