The curtain will finally come down on the 2026 MTN Elite U-19 Championship on Friday morning when defending champions Eastern Region take on an impressive Ashanti Region side in what promises to be a thrilling grand finale at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram.
After days of exciting and highly competitive youth football, the championship has reached its defining moment, with two of the competition's strongest sides set to battle for the ultimate prize and the right to be crowned champions.
The final will mark the second meeting between Eastern and Ashanti Regions in this year's championship. Their first encounter in Group A ended in a goalless draw before Ashanti Region emerged victorious in the ensuing penalty shootout, winning 5-4.
That earlier contest provided a glimpse of the fierce rivalry and competitiveness between the two teams, and Friday's showdown is expected to deliver another captivating encounter as both regions chase glory.
However, they responded strongly and recovered from that setback to finish second in Group A behind Ashanti Region. Eastern recorded two wins, one draw and one defeat to accumulate eight points and secure their place in the knockout stage.
Now, Eastern stand just one victory away from successfully defending the title they won in the inaugural edition of the championship in 2025.
Ashanti Region, however, will head into the final full of confidence after an impressive and consistent campaign. They emerged as Group A winners after winning two matches and drawing two, underlining their quality and resilience throughout the competition.
Having already avoided defeat against the defending champions earlier in the competition and subsequently prevailed in the penalty shootout, Ashanti will believe they have what it takes to overcome Eastern and lift the prestigious trophy.
With Eastern seeking to preserve their status as champions and Ashanti determined to complete an outstanding campaign with silverware, Friday morning's final promises to be a fitting climax to another exciting edition of the MTN Elite U-19 Championship.
The grand finale is expected to attract several distinguished personalities, including Executive Council members and the Chairman of the Championship, Hon. Eric Edem Agbana.
The competition brings together some of the country’s most promising young footballers, providing them with the opportunity to demonstrate their abilities and potential in a highly competitive environment.
