Black Stars Technical Advisor Winfred Schaefer has visited Accra Hearts of Oak and Hohoe United ahead of the commencement of the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League.

The visit aimed to interact with the two teams, particularly the coaches and players, and inspire them for the new season.

Winfred Schaefer, who led Cameroon to the 2002 Africa Cup of Nations title, has been the Technical Advisor of the senior national team since January. His role includes providing technical guidance, overseeing football development in Ghana, and collaborating with the Technical Directorate to develop a long-term strategic plan for the Ghana Football Association (GFA).

"We have many top players playing in Europe, but our goalkeeper is a local and was fantastic on Monday. I want to visit the clubs and use him as a role model. All players have a chance to play for the Black Stars team," Winfred Schaefer told ghanafa.org.

"It's great motivation for everyone. I'll be watching the games too. Most African players who play in Europe come from Ghana, and we must be the heart of African football again," the German added.

The 2025/26 Ghana Premier League kicks off today, Friday, with giants Accra Hearts of Oak hosting Hohoe United at the Accra Sports Stadium at 7 pm.
