BLACK SATELLITES ANNOUNCE STARTING LINEUP FOR QUARTERFINAL CLASH AGAINST HOSTS EGYPT
Ghana’s Black Satellites have named a powerful starting lineup ahead of their crunch quarterfinal clash against host nation Egypt in the ongoing TotalEnergies U-20 Africa Cup of Nations. The match, set to kick off at 18:00 local time (15:00 GMT) at the Suez Stadium, marks a determining step on Ghana’s path to both continental glory and FIFA U-20 World Cup qualification.
Team captain Ofori McCarthy returns to the starting eleven to marshal the defence, bringing added leadership and composure at the back. Also making their way back into the lineup are Emmanuel Mensah, Phenyin-Denis Marfo, and forward Jerry Afriyie, who missed the previous game.
Adding fresh energy to the squad is Hayford Boahen, who earns his first start of the tournament following impressive training performances and a strong showing in previous substitute appearances.
Ghana come into the match full of confidence, having topped Group C with a 1-1 draw against DR Congo followed by back-to-back 1-0 wins over Senegal and the Central African Republic. The Black Satellites are aiming for their 10th semifinal appearance at the U-20 AFCON and a win today will also guarantee qualification to the FIFA U-20 World Cup.
The coaching team is optimistic that the blend of experience and fresh legs in today's lineup will provide the right balance needed to overcome a determined Egyptian side playing in front of a home crowd.
As always, the team appreciates the unwavering support of Ghanaians back home and across the globe.
