Stephen Appiah's agent has played down reports the Ghana midfielder has reached a deal to join German side Schalke.

Newspaper reports claimed the 26-year-old, who plays for Turkish giants Fenerbahce, has agreed a two-year deal with the Uefa Champions League campaigners.

But Frank Trimboli told BBC Sport: "It's not true. I have monitored these reports and I can confidently say that it is not true.

"Schalke are one of the clubs who have expressed keen interest in him but they have to reach a deal with Fenerbahce."

Appiah is the subject of interest from several European clubs in the current transfer window.

English clubs Arsenal and West Ham as well as Scottish side Celtic are reported to have expressed interest in the Ghana captain.
