Ampem Darkoa Ladies lose WAFU B final to Edo Queens, miss CAF Women's Champions League ticket

Ghanaian champions Ampem Darkoa Ladies have missed out on qualification for the CAF Women's Champions League after losing to Nigeria's Edo Queens in the final of the WAFU Zone B qualifiers.

Edo Queens were crowned champions after a 4-1 penalty shootout victory following a dramatic 2-2 draw in the final played at the August 4 Stadium in Ouagadougou on Saturday.

It was a final packed with drama as the Nigerian champions twice came from behind. Ampem Darkoa took an early lead in the second minute through Beline Nyarko, but Edo Queens responded just two minutes later through Doosuur Anastasia Atume to restore parity.

The result is a major blow for Ampem Darkoa, who went into the final with a perfect record of four wins from four matches, including a 2-1 group-stage victory over Edo Queens. They had booked their place in the final with a commanding 4-1 win over FC Dynamique d'Abomey.

Edo Queens, who thrashed hosts USFA 5-1 in their semi-final to reach the final, held their nerve from the spot, converting all four penalties while Ampem Darkoa managed just one.

The triumph crowns Edo Queens as WAFU B champions and secures their place in the 2026 CAF Women's Champions League.

For Ampem Darkoa Ladies, it is a painful end to what had been an impressive campaign, as they fall short of a return to Africa's premier women's club competition.
