Kumasi Asante Kotoko have dethroned AshantiGold to go top of the league standings after the final day of the 2006 league calendar.

Seven wins was recorded across the country with one draw.

The Porcupine Warriors beat the Miners 1-0 on match-day-XII at the Robert Mensah stadium in Cape Coast to confirm their place for next year’s CAF/MTN Champions League competition.

However, Asante Kotoko would have to await the outcome of the outstanding fixture between archrivals, Hearts of Oak and Tema Youth before declaring themselves champions.

But AshantiGold would also monitor the result of that particular game to confirm their place in Africa’s elite competition or settle for place in the Confederation Cup.

Liberty Professionals have also booked their place for continental club football as they qualify for the Confederation Cup.

The weekend’s round of matches produced exciting results across the country.

Earlier on Saturday, Accra Hearts of Oak boosted by the Appeals Committee decision to award them back three points and three goals inched closer to the league title when they pipped Bofoakwa Tano 1-0.

Ablade Morgan ensured that the Phobians left the Tema Park with the maximum points at stake when he converted a 27th minute spot kick.

In Cape Coast, Kumasi Asante Kotoko ended AshantiGold’s title dreams with a 1- win.

Team captain, Edmund Owusu-Ansah against the run of play got the victory for Asante Kotoko when he scored in the 31st minute of the first half.

At the Swedru park, Gamba All Blacks won the local derby as they recorded a 2-0 win over Feyenoord Academy.

Salifu Razak and Paul Appiah gave the Black Magicians both goals.

The other derby on the weekend at the Tema park between Real Sportive and Tema Youth ended goalless.

Heart of Lions looked to strong for Sekondi Hasaacas as they crushed the away side 4-0 at the Kpando stadium.

Lions had a goal disallowed in the 20th minute but they never relented and went ahead to score the first goal three minutes later through Obed Ansah.

Six minutes after the opener, Sulemana Ibrahim increased the tally for Heart of Lions. Abraham Ohene and Emmanuel Banahene scored a goal apiece to give Lions victory.

In Sunyani, King Faisal upped their position on the league standings when they beat Accra Great Olympics 2-1 at the Coronation park.

Francis Ofori opened the scoring for Faisal when he scored in the 41st minute separated.

In the second half, Sumaila Nyaya got the second goal for Faisal before Emmanuel Clottey got the consolation for the Wonder Boys.

Liberty Professionals secured qualification for next year’s Confederation Cup competition after beating Power FC 2-0 at the Carl Reindorff park.

The Dansoman-based club compounded the problems of the bottom club as Michael Helegbe struck in extra time of the first half.

Back from recess, Michael Helegbe grabbed a brace as he scored the second goal in the second half.

Real Sportive and Tema Youth shared the spoils in the local derby at the Tema park on match-day-XII.

Tema Youth, however have a game in hand as they play Accra Hearts of Oak in their outstanding match-day-VII fixture.

The Appeals Committee on Friday overturned an earlier decision by the Disciplinary Committee ruling that awarded Tema Youth three points and three goals after Hearts of Oak had failed to show up for the game.

Arsenals playing at home had to wait until the 77th minute before James Boadu opened the scoring.
