Title pretenders aim for league upset

Attention would soon be switched onto the domestic scene as another hectic campaign for the U-20 World glory concludes Friday for Ghana.

The domestic campaign will witness 480 games that will be concluded by the May 16, 2010 deadline set by Fifa for all football leagues to end as the world sport body seeks one clear month of no footballing competition before the start of the 2010 World Cup finals.

The football family would have lots to look up to beginning this weekend as the elite teams prepares to kick off the start of the 2009/10 Glo Premier League season.

And as the competition gets ready to begin, lots of questions have been asked about the businesses done during the off season by the sixteen competing teams.

Certainly, the big transfers have happened in Accra and Kumasi where champions, Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko have been plotting their campaigns from.

There’s been other low key player movements but off little interest to the established giants and the media.

But irrespective of all the moves, one thing is certain, there will be no lack of pressure on all sides and their new signings – players, coaches, technical staff and management personnel – when the competition begins.

The league will welcome Great Olympics, who mark their return to the top flight while debutants, New Edubiase and Aduana Stars all prepare to have a taste of elite football.

The newly promoted sides will attempt to challenge for the 110m trophy made of pure optical crystal, that Hearts picked up as Champions last season.

But as the season gets ready for the big kick off, The big question: Will the duopoly enjoyed by Hearts and Asante Kotoko be broken this season?

Out of the lot, there are many title pretenders but trust their fans to cheer them on to attempt ending the long drought.

So, let the countdown to an exciting season begin as the title pretenders attempt to break the duopoly of the established order.
