As the premiership goes on a short break, two Ghanaian clubs will switch their sights on seeking continental football glory this weekend.

League leaders, Kumasi Asante Kotoko and AshantiGold left the capital, Accra for Nigeria and Algeria, respectively, for the weekend's African club games.

Kotoko will play their first continental game in the Caf Confederations Cup against Nigerian side Wikki Tourists in the first round.

AshantiGold travel to Kabilyie to play JSK, in their second round match of the competition.

The Porcupine Warriors, losing finalist in the maiden tournament have failed to taste continental glory with their last coming some 25 years ago.

However, Kotoko coach Bashir Hayford remains confident of their chances in winning competition which comes with a prize money of $300,000.

“My understanding is that Wikki are good at their base, but our attitude will be to win there so that we will play the return encounter in Kumasi with as little pressure as possible,” the Kotoko coach told KickOffGhana before departing Accra for the game.

AshantiGold, who produced the biggest win of the preliminary round, courtesy a 7-2 aggregate win over Nigerien champions, Sporting Sahel after a 6-1 home win to go through to the first round round would be in for a tough game away from home whey they clash with JSK.

The match with JSK will be biggest game for the Miners on their way to the targeted 1/8th stage of the Champions League as they try to reproduce their 1997 form when they they reached the final of the inaugural Champions League.

Good away results will put the Ghanaian teams in good stead for the return legs in Kumasi and Obuasi in two weeks time.
