With the festive season still on, the premiership, also quickens this weekend when the sixteen clubs take to the pitch for match-day-7 of the Onetouch Premier League.
It’s fair to say most premiership clubs should have recovered from their Christmas hangovers and with the parties over, it’s back to work for all beginning on Saturday.
Real Sportive kick off the action at the El-Wak Stadium where they welcome Gamba All Blacks. Both sides, who are level on points, 7 points apiece after six matches, would attempt to further improve their spot on the standings in a game which can go either way.
Then on Sunday, the bulk of the weekend’s games would be played at seven match centres spread across the country.
Since their painful defeat that ended their 100% record after five wins in the league, Asante Kotoko would try to return to winning ways when they play struggling Sekondi Hasaacas at the Baba Yara Stadium in Sunyani.
Berekum Arsenals would be at home to Liberty Professionals, one the league’s top performers so far at the Golden City Park.
A win for the Gunners would help them close in on the top four sides while Liberty will try to push themselves into the top four should they pick victory.
Last season’s champions, Accra Hearts of Oak are yet to put up convincing performances to show their intent of regaining the title. The Phobians, who can only boast of seven points from a maximum of 18, play Tema Youth at the Ohene Djan Stadium on Sunday.
Since plotting the season’s biggest upset yet – beating leaders, Asante Kotoko – AshantiGold would be in high spirits when they travel to Dansoman to play Zaytuna FC at the Carl Reindorf Park.
Kessben FC would receive a roaring welcome from the hostile crowd at the Kpando Park where they play away to Heart of Lions in the weekend’s match-of-the-day.
Both sides, who are pegged at 13 points apiece and remain two short of leaders, Kotoko, would need victory to keep the chase at the top going or enter the new year at the summit should the Porcupine Warriors lose elsewhere.
The Kaladan Park would see Real Tamale United take on King Faisal. RTU have remained strong at home and would try to post victory over the Kumasi-based side.
Finally, the Wa Park wraps up the weekend’s games with home team, All Stars, smarting from defeat the last time and who have been inconsistent in six games hosting bottom side, Accra Great Olympics.
