The Premier League’s television production company, Afri-Sat has completed payment of the final trunch for the broadcast rights to the Ghana Football Association.
Afri-Sat, a South-African-based satellite channel handed the Ghana Football Association a cheque of $750,000, representing the outstanding balance of the deal clinched before the start of the new football season.
The Ghana Football Association made the announcement on Thursday at the official unveiling of the 3-year sponsorship deal worth $3 million with Afri-Sat and Gateway Broadcast Services the broadcast company of the league.
By the contract, GBS will telecast four games every week including one live match and a 30-minutes highlights package.
Harry Yamson, the Managing Director of GBS, explains that the money pumped into the league through the commitment of the television will spark growth in domestic football.
Though concerns might have been raised over the concentration of live coverage of matches in the cities which would be used for the African Cup of Nations, spokesperson of the Ghana Football Association, Randy Abbey, says an arrangement will be agreed to ensure fair coverage for all 16 top flight clubs.
Afri-Sat, in October signed a deal with the Ghana Football Association to broadcast the premiership for three years, granting the South African-based television channel exclusive rights to broadcast Ghana’s elite league, the OneTouch premier league on their network.
