The midweek action in the premiership recorded some interesting results as Asante Kotoko slouched to their third consecutive defeat after falling to league debutants, Tema Youth.
Wednesday’s round of matches produced five wins from seven centres with two games ending goalless.
There were no away wins with Real Tamale United and Power FC earning their third wins this season since the start of the league in August.
Kotoko’s losing trail continued as the Porcupine Warriors failed to recover from their losing hangover.
Three days after losing to 1-3 to Hearts of Oak, Kotoko could not to pick up the pieces at the Tema park where premiership debutants, Tema Youth caused a major upset after beating the Porcupine Warriors 1-0.
Kotoko’s main area of concern lately, the central defence gave them up once again as Murtala Mohammed paid the price for his indecisiveness in clearing a first time ball as Tema Youth’s Mohammed Gado went round him to plant the ball beyond goalkeeper Mohammed Alhassan in the 21st minute.
And that goal separated both sides till the end pf the game.
But as Kotoko dropped points, league leaders, Accra Hearts of Oak managed to force a draw at the Carl Reindorff park where they drew 0-0 with Liberty Professionals.
Despite the barren scoreline, the Phobians still sit at the summit of the table and are now three points clear with a game to spare.
Hearts handed Charles Taylor his league debut though he was substituted in the second half.
At the Ho sports stadium, Power FC recorded their first victory of the year after posting a 3-0 win over Berekum Arsenals.
The win was the third and the biggest for the bottom placed club since the start of the season in August but they still prop the sixteen club league.
Alan Shearer put Power FC in the lead when he connected with the head after 2o minutes before Francis Coffie’s second half ensured that they put the game beyond Berekum Arenals.
In Sunyani, two goals, one in each half was enough to secure victory for Bofoakwa Tano as they beat Gamba All Blacks 2-0 at the Coronation park.
The Black Magicians started off the game on a good note but paid dearly for their lack of concentration when the home side took the lead in the 4th minute through Sander Mohammed.
Sander’s goal appeared to have play of Bofoakwa Tano as they dictated the pace of the game afterwards.
And in the second half, Francis Darko increased the goal tally when he scored in the 59th minute to make it 2-0 for Bofoakwa Tano to seal victory.
Sekondi Hasaacas picked all the three maximum points at their Gyandu park where they beat Real Sportive 1-0.
Hasaacas back from their weekend defeat to the Miners in Obuasi proved unyielding to drop the valuable points at home as they scored the match winner in the first half.
And it was Frederick Quayeson whose 22nd minute strike separated both sides till proceedings was brought to an end.
Real Tamale United needed a goal in each half to beat Hearts of Lions 2-0 at the Kaladan park in Tamale.
Joseph Adjei shot the Pride of the North into the lead in the first half. Adjei’s lone goal separated both sides till the end of the first half.
In the second half, Real Tamale United had to wait late in injury time before making it 2-0.
Alhassan Weah scored the spot to give RTU their third win of the season.
In Swedru, King Faisal left the park with a point after drawing goalless with Feyenoord Academy.
The game was the last for Faisal coach, Karim Zito whose contract expires on Wednesday.
And his team displayed their toughness after containing the Feyenoord side.
However, it was Feyenoord who came close to finding the back of the net with Dominic Adiyah failing to put his side ahead.
One game comes up on Thursday at the Ho sports stadium where Great Olympics play AshantiGold.
